Net worth calculator / Net worth tracker

Net worth tracker app

Save your net worth with a date every time you update it. Then look back and see which accounts moved it, up or down.

Our app is coming to web and iPhone first, then Android. Entering balances yourself will be free.

We only use your address for launch news. Need a number today? Use the net worth calculator.

Bank sync on paid plans will connect to 12,000+ financial institutions, including Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo.Read-only bank connections by Plaid

What the tracker shows you

The home screen shows today’s total, everything you own minus everything you owe, with the date of your balances under it. Two more screens do the tracking.

Every month, saved

Each update becomes a dated snapshot. Scroll back a month or a year and see how much your total changed, including the months it went down.

App design preview: monthly net worth history, latest first, with the change for each month. Sample balances.

What moved your total

Pick two dates and the change splits by account. A smaller mortgage balance shows up as a gain, right next to what your investments did.

Connect your bank in 3 steps. Read-only, through Plaid.

On Essentials or Plus, your bank balances fill themselves in. Connections are read-only, and you can disconnect a bank anytime.

  1. App design preview: Choose your bank, a Plaid bank picker with a search box and bank logos, plus an option to enter a balance manually.

    1Choose your bank

Search for your bank and sign in through Plaid. Plaid handles the login, so we never see your bank password.

  2. App design preview: What should we include? Checking at $14,250 and savings at $28,000, both selected. Sample balances.

    2Pick the accounts that count

Check the accounts that belong in your net worth. One you already added by hand gets updated, not counted twice.

  3. App design preview: Your balances are here. 2 accounts connected and net worth up to date. Sample balances.

    3Done

Your balances land in your total and update once a week. Add your home, car and anything else by hand.

How to track your net worth

The steps are the same in a spreadsheet or an app.

  1. List every account once. Checking, savings, brokerage and retirement accounts, your home, your cars, and every loan and credit card. The net worth calculator gives you a first total.
  2. Pick one day a month. The 1st or the last day both work. Using the same day every time keeps one month comparable with the next.
  3. Write down every balance on that day. Balances from different days can count the same money twice, like a card payment that has left checking but still shows on the card.
  4. Save the total with its date, and leave old months alone. Add a new row each month instead of typing over the last one. The history is what you’re building.
  5. Compare. Look at the change since last month and which account caused it. One down month after a market drop says little. A slide over several months is worth a closer look.

Once you have a total, see how it compares with the Federal Reserve’s figures for net worth by age.

Spreadsheet or app? Both work.

A spreadsheet is a fine net worth tracker if you like building one. The app is for people who’d rather not keep one up.

Questions

When does the net worth tracker launch?

We haven’t set a date. Web and iPhone come first, then Android. Join the launch list and we’ll email you when it’s ready.

Do I have to link my bank accounts?

No. Typing in your balances yourself is free. Bank syncing is optional and comes with the paid plans.

Can I track my home, car and loans?

Yes. Anything a bank can’t sync, like your home’s value, a car or a private loan, you enter yourself and update when it changes.

Will my past months show up?

Your history starts the day you start tracking. The app can’t fill in months you didn’t record, so the sooner you start, the longer your chart.
